Dulwich Wood Nursery School is a state funded community nursery school in the London Borough of Southwark in a new building. We have an excellent reputation and provide a very high quality of early education and care in partnership with parents. Our most recent Ofsted report said “Dulwich Wood Nursery is a good school” and “Good teaching and a real interest in individuals enables the children to quickly gain in confidence and helps them to swiftly settle in and make good progress”. We provide a rich environment where children can engage in stimulating play for 120 three and four year old children, who attend either morning or afternoon places. We aim to offer children a full time place during their last term before their statutory transfer to primary school.
The school itself is set in extensive grounds with many mature trees and is an oasis in an urban setting. The grounds are separated into two halves: the first for the under threes and the second, larger half for the over threes. There are vegetable gardens for the children, wicker shelters, play equipment and runways for the bikes and trikes and the children love spending time outside. The classroom doors are kept open as much as possible so that the children have direct access to the grounds.
The Children’s Centre provides stay and play sessions, a toy library, sensory sessions, mother and toddler groups and childminder dropins. We have a childminding co-ordinator working here one day a week and provide sessions with health visitors and midwives. We also offer parent learning sessions and advice, including healthy eating courses, support for families and childminders and run benefits advice and back to work dropins. We also work closely with other practitioners who provide support in the building for families with children under six.
We also provide quality day care for babies and children from six months to three years, before and after school care and holiday provision for children from three to five years.
